          Carleton College (KARL-tin) is a privateliberal arts college in Northfield, Minnesota.[7] Founded in 1866, the 200-acre (81 ha) main campus is between Northfield and the approximately 800-acre (320 ha) Cowling Arboretum, which became part of the campus in the 1920s.[8]

          The college offers courses from 33 major programs and 38 minor programs, and has the option for students to design their own majors.[9] Carleton's varsity sports compete at the NCAA Division III level in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
