Muhammad Abdul Aziz (Arabic: محمد عبد العزيز; formerly known as Norman 3X Butler; born June 27, 1938) is an American man who was convicted, and later exonerated, for the 1965 assassination of Malcolm X – a conviction that was overturned in November 2021, decades after he was paroled in 1985.

Muhammad Abdul Aziz, who at the time of Malcolm X's death was known as Norman 3X Butler, was the second person arrested in the murder case.

Norman 3X Butler (aka Muhammad Aziz) had been arrested by the NYPD; both were later convicted.

Mujahid Abdul Halim is the one man who confessed to his role in the assassination.

Aziz, then known as Norman 3X Butler, was arrested five days later, and Islam, known as Thomas 15X Johnson, another five days after that.

Biography

Aziz was a member of the Fruit of Islam, the security arm of the Nation of Islam; though he later converted to Sunni Islam under the leadership of Warith Deen Mohammed.
